Corvette Milestones: January 3, 1995 – Chevrolet announces that for the third time, the Corvette has been chosen as the official pace car of the 1995 Indianapolis 500 race.
Dateline January 2016: Chevrolet announces to its dealers that 522 pace car replicas would be produced, with 87 replicas for the Indianapolis festival and public relations. Twenty cars were scheduled for export to Canada. The remaining 415 available replicas were distributed to the top Chevrolet dealers. The final tally of 1995 Corvette Indy 500 Pace Car Replicas was 527.
The styling of the 1978 Pace Car Corvette was very muscle car-like. The 1986 Pace Car was as plain as can be. The 1995 Pace Car was obviously given careful consideration and was the wildest-looking Corvette Pace Car to that date. The 1995 Corvette Convertible listed for $43,665 and the RPO-Z4Z Indy 500 Pace Car Replica option cost $2,816, making it the second most expensive 1995 option. (The ZR-1 was the most expensive Corvette option for 1995 – $31,258!)
The Pace Car Replica package included: Dark Purple Metallic over White two-Tone paint, Special Indy Decal Package, Special Indy emblems, LT1 engine, 4-speed automatic transmission, Performance Axle Ratio (3.07:1), 9.5” Front and Rear Argent ZR-1 Wheels, P275/40ZR17 B/W Tires, Coated ZR-1 Brake Rotors, Black Interior, Black leather Adjustable Sport Bucket Seats with purple Insert and Indy Logo on Headrest, Electronic A/C, Power Seats, and Delco/Bose Music System. The overall package was stunning!
