If Chevrolet was to make retro Corvettes, would billboards such as these help sell cars?
As a “car person” I’m sure you get car related emails from your friends too. The other day my good friend Bill Fackelman sent me a collection of made up images that “should” be Chevy billboards and several were Corvettes. You might have seen a few of these, but they’re still pretty neat.
Chevrolet has never gotten too much into billboard advertising for Corvettes. It’s understandable, as in the big world of General Motors, the Corvette is a very low-volume car. In 1953 when the Corvette came out and only 300 units were built, Chevrolet’s best seller was the four-door sedan that sold 332,497 units. And in 1979, the year Chevrolet sold more Corvettes that ever, (53,807 units) 84,877 Z-28 Camaros and 208,865 Chevettes were sold (ouch!). I’d bet that there are more ‘79 Corvettes still around than ‘79 Z-28s and especially Chevettes!
So, the expensive, low production Corvette gets the last laugh! The made up, non-Corvette billboards are below in a slide show. Enjoy. – Scott
