While researching my next Illustrated Corvette Series story for VETTE Magazine about the 1996 LT4 Corvette engine, I happened upon this interesting item for sale on eBay by F•Parts. The listing is not an auction; it’s a Buy Now or Make Offer offer.
If you’re looking for a complete engine, drivetrain, suspension, chassis, wheels, brakes, and tires for some kind of street rod project, for just $5,999.00 or better (2011 dollars), you can be off to a good start.
Of course, I can’t help but wonder, “What happened to the rest of the car???”

Obviously, someone had a BAD DAY when their 2000 Corvette ended up naked in a salvage yard. Stuff happens, right? It’s been many months since this bare chassis went up for sale. You can’t help but wonder what’s become of it, and it’s now part of some really cool street rod or race car. We’ll never know.
But it sure makes for an unusual sight!
C4 Corvette chassis are often used for RestoMod projects. Sebring, Florida resident, Rick Weigand’s 1954 Corvette Restomod rides on a C4 Corvette chassis. Despite the fact that the C4 Corvettes are at the bottom of the Corvette pecking order, the basic C4 structure and suspension have the makings of many restomod Corvettes. The biggest challenge is lengthening the C4’s wheelbase of 96.2 inches to the correct length for a project.
C4 Corvette suspension components are mostly lightweight aluminum. Some C4 chassis-based Corvette restomods have polished aluminum suspension parts that add serious bling to any custom Corvette restomod. Rick Weigand’s 1954 Corvette restomod is a crowd favorite at Corvette and hot rod shows in the Sebring, Florida area. You can’t miss the car with its bright cherry red paint.
