Work continues on our new prints enterprise. In April 2012 we partnered with Fine Art America so that our Corvette art print customers could enjoy the many options afforded by FAA. Our latest offering, “Corvette Box of Candies” came as a happy result of working on our horizontal and vertical layouts of the Corvette Special Editions and Corvette Indy 500 Pace Cars layouts.
Since we’re talking about special edition Corvettes in general, I thought it would be fun to find out from you, our readers, what’s your favorite special edition Corvette, as presented above, Pace Car Corvettes included. Since 21 cars is an awfully large spread (like an Italian presidential election), I broke down the polling into C3, C4, C5, and C6 special editions. Pictures of each candidate are below in each sectioned out poll.
When the September issue of Motor Trend arrived in early August ‘03, Corvette fans had a tasty treat! Could MT have made a bigger splash for the new 2004 Commemorative Edition Corvette? Yes, but no much more so. The driver’s side front fender was cropped slightly to better fill the cover and the Saleen S7 and Mosler MT900S got postage stamp-sized pictures in the lower left. For Corvette fans, this was a “gotta have and save issue.” I sure did!
The Centennial Edition (code ZLC) will be available on all 2012 Corvettes and is arguably the juiciest special edition Corvette offer to date. Even though the basic package is the same, between the six Corvette variants (base Coupe, base Convertible. Grand Sport Coupe, Grand Sport Convertible, Z06, and ZR1), plus the variables of trim and options, there will be lots unique Centennial Edition Corvettes. “Collectibility” will be out the window, but there will be plenty of VERY nice ‘12 Corvettes.
‘09 ZR1 Corvette is a car that will have Corvette historians taking for years. Corvette Chief Engineer, Tadge Juechter and his crew have served up the ultimate production Corvette that is a first-class example of how racing improves the breed.
It’s highly unlikely that Chevrolet is going to let two coinciding Corvette milestones go without some kind of celebration. So what would a 60th Anniversary Corvette look like and how would it be equipped? Obviously, we won’t know until Chevrolet wants us to know.
Take a closer look at the 2004 Commemorative Edition Corvette and why many enthusiasts consider it the best C5 ever built. With Le Mans–inspired styling, special badging and late-generation refinement, this limited-production model represents the pinnacle of C5 development and a fitting send-off for a generation that reshaped modern Corvette performance.
So, we have an interesting situation. While in the worst economic downturn since the Great Depression of the 1930s, Chevrolet’s planned special edition Corvettes turned out to be the most limited production special edition cars in all of Corvette history. The rarest being the GT1 Championship Edition 6-speed convertible, with only 3 units made! It will be very interesting to follow these cars in Keith Martin’s “Corvette Market” magazine to see how these very rare Corvettes perform at auctions as the years roll on.
